Interactive Wood Art
This is a project I made for my junior design course during the 2022 fall semester. It was inspired by the Bare Conductive Touch Board. The piece is 24x36 inch, made of plywood, acrylic, and aluminum. It uses capacitive touch to trigger different audio and sound effects. I had never made an electronics piece of this size before, nor had I much experience working with Neopixels.
This is the original design I created. Due to the availability of laser cutters at the time and the size and detail of my design, I could only cut certain parts at a time rather than cut the entire thing.
After cutting them to the look I desired, I pieced them together at the end.
Here is the custom PCB I designed using the ATMEGA328P. I decided to use headers for my peripherals since I didn't know the number or placement of the Neopixels at that stage.
I needed to twist the Neopixels lines and hot glue them and adhere them to their respective positions to maintain signal integrity.
I decided to place my electronics at the right bottom panel for easier mounting purposes.
Here is a video of me playing the piece.
